How Ananké Inc. collects, uses, and protects your personal information in connection with VectorLens.

Introduction and Scope
Ananké Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") operates the VectorLens desktop application and the website at https://vectorlens.dev. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information in connection with your purchase and use of VectorLens.
We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.
This Policy applies to: (a) personal information collected through https://vectorlens.dev; and (b) personal information collected in connection with the purchase and licensing of the Software. It does not apply to information processed by the vector databases or embedding services you connect to using the Software — those are operated independently by you or third parties.
Information You Provide
When you purchase VectorLens, the following information is collected in connection with the transaction:
- Name and email address (provided at checkout)
- Billing address (used for tax and fraud prevention purposes)
- Payment card information — processed directly and exclusively by Shopify Payments; we do not receive, store, or process raw payment card data
Information Collected Automatically — Website
When you visit https://vectorlens.dev, we collect certain technical information automatically, including:
- IP address and approximate geographic location (country/region)
- Browser type, version, and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent, and navigation path
- Referring URL
This information is collected through Google Analytics (see Section 5.2 below).
License Activation Data
When you activate the Software, we collect and store:
- The MAC address of your licensed machine (used to bind the license key to your device)
- A timestamp and license key identifier associated with the activation
We do not collect any other information from your machine, including but not limited to installed software, files, documents, or the contents of your vector databases.
Support Communications
If you contact us for support (e.g., a reactivation request), we collect the information you voluntarily provide in your communication, including your email address and any details about your issue.
How We Use Your Information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
- To process and fulfil your purchase, and to issue and manage your license key
- To activate your license and associate it with your licensed machine
- To deliver software updates and maintenance notifications during your Maintenance Period
- To respond to support inquiries, including hardware reactivation requests
- To comply with legal obligations, including tax record-keeping requirements
- To analyze and improve our website and product (using aggregated, anonymized data)
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions or abuse of license keys
We will not use your personal information for any purpose inconsistent with those described above without first obtaining your consent, where required by applicable law.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information on the following bases:
- Contractual necessity: to fulfil our obligations to you under the EULA (license issuance, maintenance, support)
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable tax, financial, and regulatory requirements
- Legitimate interests: to prevent fraud and abuse; to improve our product through aggregated analytics; provided these interests are not overridden by your privacy rights
- Consent: where required by applicable law and where we have obtained your consent (e.g., marketing communications)
Shopify Payments
Payment processing for VectorLens is handled by Shopify Payments, a service of Shopify Inc. When you make a purchase, Shopify collects and processes your payment information in accordance with Shopify's Privacy Policy. We receive from Shopify only the transactional information necessary to confirm and fulfil your purchase (e.g., confirmation of payment, billing name and email).
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to analyze traffic and usage patterns on https://vectorlens.dev. Google Analytics may collect your IP address, browser information, and browsing behavior on our website using cookies and similar technologies. This data is transmitted to and stored on Google's servers, which may be located outside Canada. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
You may opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Other Disclosures
We may also disclose personal information:
- To comply with a legal obligation, court order, or government request
- To enforce our EULA or protect the rights, property, or safety of Ananké Inc., our users, or the public
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided the acquiring entity agrees to treat your information in accordance with this Policy
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies for the following purposes:
- Essential cookies: Required for the website and checkout process to function (e.g., session management, shopping cart)
- Analytics cookies: Used by Google Analytics to collect aggregated usage data
You can control cookie settings through your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our website. A cookie consent mechanism is presented when you first visit https://vectorlens.dev.
Data Retention
- Purchase and license records: Retained for seven (7) years following the date of purchase, in accordance with applicable tax and commercial record-keeping requirements
- License activation data (MAC address): Retained for the duration of the active license and for one (1) year following expiry or termination
- Support communications: Retained for two (2) years following resolution of the support request
- Website analytics data: Retained in accordance with Google Analytics's data retention settings (default: 14 months)
After the applicable retention period, we will securely delete or anonymize your personal information.
Data Security
We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption of personal data in transit using TLS
- Access controls limiting personal information access to authorized personnel only
- Reliance on Shopify's PCI-DSS compliant payment processing infrastructure
No method of data transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
International Transfers
Our service providers, including Shopify and Google, may process or store personal information on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States. By using VectorLens and our website, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries other than Canada. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any such transfers comply with applicable privacy laws.
Your Privacy Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to our legal record-keeping obligations)
- Withdraw consent for any processing based on your consent
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or a relevant provincial privacy authority

Children's Privacy
VectorLens is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at legal@vectorlens.dev.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The current version will always be posted at https://vectorlens.dev/legal with the effective date. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users.
